In early stages in many children’s lives they have a baptism ceremony, aday of gathering and gift giving. It’s perhaps obvious that presents are given to the child being baptised but it’s also a tradition that the guest leave with a present, otherwise known as a favor. This gift is to give thanks them for coming to the ceremony and to remind them from the child’s special day.
The gift is really a similar concept to the favor bags you might get a wedding or at a children’s party. The gifts then could be something for example some of the celebration cake or maybe a small toy from the child’s party. The baptism favors are usually all the same and to often remind guests of the date and time of the baptism.
The gifts are typically handed out by the child’s new god parents; this doesn’t always mean they have to fund the gift though. The gifts could be bought by anyone and could be of any value. It’s wise to keep everyone friendly by making the gifts the same unless there are specific individuals you believe should get more.
Obviously you can get a gift for the god parents after they have provided theirs to everybody else. These gifts could be anything you feel appropriate for the individuals in question and can be different from other gifts or more sophisticated versions.
The gifts could be some thing simple provided in a simple package or box. Something you could decorate and fill yourself possibly. The filling might be something basic for example sweets or chocolates or could be as complicated as funds allow. Maybe include a printed card with the events date on it or include it on the package so the day can be thought of.
If you have the funds you could purchase glass or even silver dummies with area for engraving of the events time and date. You can also consider a scroll or plaque using the same sort of information on it. If this is too much for everyone to receive then it could what you choose to give the god mother and father like a special present.
As with everything these days the more you spend the much more you get, but in this situation the idea is just as important. Something small and thoughtful can be just as welcome a gift, something which will be memorable. Perhaps something as basic like a thanks note for attending the day with a finger print or hand print from the baby to make it extra special. Also think of some thing for example a photograph from the kid, all simple things to arrange and to put together.
The possibility exists that your visitors are really there for the baptism and are not even expecting to be given favors. Therefore, you are able to rest easy in realizing that they will value whatever it is that you can afford and you can enjoy your baby’s unique day without worrying that you might have broken the bank.
